The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) staff support the children as they embark on their learning journey through our school.
The EYFS Classes are REM and RMW. The Class Teachers are Miss Evans (Mon - Weds) and Mrs Martin (Weds – Friday) in REM and Miss Williams in RHM. Alongside the teachers, the Teaching Assistants Mrs Collinson, Mrs Sparey, Miss Hodge, Miss Major and Mr Jones work with all of the children in EYFS.
The school day begins at 8:30am with the bell ringing at 8:45am. When all the children have settled in to the new school routine, EYFS parents and carers are welcome to come in to class for our Early Morning Task on a Monday and Friday from 8:30am and stay until 8:45am when we begin the day together with a prayer. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the children come in independently and focus straight on their learning.
Miss Evans and Mrs Martin are the EYFS Phase Leaders however anyone within the EYFS Team would be more than happy to help should you have a question or concern.
What our week looks like
In EYFS, our home learning involves reading our home reading book and practising recognising and, when ready, blending sounds to read words. All children have a reading book matched to their phonic knowledge and flashcards of the sounds we have learnt in school. Just 10 minutes every day dedicated to practising reading skills is so beneficial. Alongside this, please continue to read for pleasure, visit the library, make reading a part of your bedtime routine and enjoy books as a family whenever possible.
Both EYFS classes have some additional Physical activities and/ or a PE lesson on a Tuesday. Please can the children come into school dressed in our PE kit – a white polo shirt, plain black jogging bottoms and trainers. The children are also required to wear their usual school jumper and tie on PE day. Please ensure that all school uniform items are clearly named to avoid clothing getting lost. We must ask that, as per the school policy, earrings are removed on Tuesdays in order for all children to safely participate in PE.
Everyone needs to have their welly boots named and in school every day so they can be worn for OPAL fun every lunchtime as well as during outdoor learning provision when the weather requires waterproofs to protect the children and their uniform . Please ensure your child has clearly named waterproof clothing that can go on top of their school uniform to ensure your child can access all of OPAL play at lunchtimes. The children find a separate jacket and trouser two piece the easiest to get on and off, especially considering when they need the toilet. But anything waterproof is ideal.
We are looking forward to having a great start to school life together!
