Welcome to Year 1

The Year 1 Staff

Year One Teachers: Miss Hurley and Mrs Hodges (1HQ) and Mrs Devereux (1SD).

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Cripps, Mrs Parsons, Mrs Barton, Mrs Hensley, Mrs Moth, Miss Hodge, Mrs Major, Mrs Mandhare, Mrs O'Kane.

PPA Teacher: Mr Jalloh (1SD).  PPA is covered internally in 1HQ.

What our week looks like

Year One parents and carers are welcome to come in to class for our Early Morning Task on Mondays and Fridays from 8:30am and stay until 8:45am when we begin the day together with a prayer. This is a great opportunity to complete a task with your child within their classroom - we do politely ask that you do not use your phone during this time. It is also an opportunity to have short conversations or pass messages onto one of the Year One staff members.

 If you are unable to stay during Early Morning Task then please do not hesitate to speak to your child's class teacher or another member of the team at home time and we will always be happy to help/support in whatever way we can.

In Year One it is so important that the children are reading every day. Your child’s reading scheme book will be changed on a Monday and Thursday after they have read to an adult at home three times and can show that they have a good understanding of what they have read, please record in their home learning record how they are progressing at home with their reading.  Reading the same text at least three times will help the children develop their long-term memory, comprehension as well as their segmenting and blending skills.

PE 

Both Year One classes have PE on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please send your child into school in PE kit on these days and no earrings please.

The Colour Monster is curious about what school is like.

He imagines it to be a spooky castle or a place in the sky among rainbows and clouds. 

Throughout the story he experiences various school activities, including music lessons, lunchtime and making new friends. 

This term,  we explore using the text to: sequence, orally retell with time connectives, learn how to use question marks and exclamation marks appropriately and use adjectives to add description to our sentences.
